The rugged coast of Maine creates many opportunities for landscape photography incorporating land, sea, sky and atmosphere. In addition to the striking landscape, there are many small towns and fishing villages, each with a unique character. We will be in the area of Camden, Rockport, Rockland and Belfast, and will explore unique areas of coastline. We will take a ferry to Monhegan Island, a place without cars, where you can often see artists painting the ocean scenes outdoors.
Experience the gorgeous coastline with long, open beaches and unusual sea stacks. Low tides reveal rocks filled with mussels and starfish, while whales are often visible offshore. The variety of moods of the Pacific Ocean change with the weather and time of day. Magnificent redwood forests around Crescent City, CA and Brookings OR contain towering trees, ferns and amazing light, and you may feel as though you are in an outdoor cathedral.
What an interesting place to make photographs! The “U.P.” has many wonderful surprises for photographers, from spectacular beaches and lakeshores to interesting towns and villages. There are cool buildings, such as the ore dock in Marquette, and waterfalls that seem almost as plentiful as in Iceland. The historic mining town of Marquette is located on the rugged southern shore of Lake Superior, and it has a lot to offer photographers with beautiful waterfalls, lighthouses and interior lakes. There is a lot to experience in this area, including the Ore Docks, Presque Isle Park and Lake Superior beaches. Waterfalls are also nearby in Munising, Pictured Rocks and other areas.
The high desert of Nevada and Utah provide many interesting landscape features, including narrow slot canyons, brilliant red sandstone formations and Lake Mead. We will stay near the Valley of Fire State Park and spend a few days photographing the amazing red sandstone formations and the Lake Mead area. Then we will move on to St. George, in Southern Utah for more landscapes - including the Kolob Canyon portion of Zion National Park. The scenery will be spectacular!
